Give Rest. Give Refuge.

About The Haven

The Haven exists to provide rest, safety, and stability for children and teens in foster care during one of the most uncertain moments of their lives—while they await a permanent placement.

Across our region, there are simply not enough foster homes available to meet the immediate needs of children entering care. When a child is removed from their home due to neglect or abuse, finding a suitable foster or residential placement can take days or even weeks. During this time, many children wait in government offices or move between temporary settings that offer little comfort or consistency.

The Haven was created to meet this urgent need with compassion and purpose. Here, children will find a warm bed, a calm environment, and caring adults who reflect the love of Christ. While the right long-term placement is identified, The Haven serves as a place of refuge—offering safety, dignity, and reassurance to children who should never have to wait alone or afraid.

Our vision is that every child who passes through The Haven encounters love, stability, and hope—and knows they are deeply valued.

Why This Work Matters

Leaders and experts consistently affirm what children in care need most: safe relationships and stable environments.

  • “The government does transactions well, but is not good at building relationships.”
  • “The more safe, loving, and well-supported foster homes there are, the better the outcomes for kids.”
  • Research from Belmont University confirms that the single greatest factor for positive outcomes among youth transitioning out of foster care is the presence of one meaningful adult relationship.

Scripture echoes this call to care for vulnerable children with faithfulness and love (James 1:27; Romans 12:10; Lamentations 2:19).

The Need in Tennessee

  • More than 8,600 children are currently in the custody of Tennessee’s Department of Children’s Services.
  • There are only 4,700 foster homes statewide.
  • 43% of children entering care are teenagers, and placement options for youth ages 13+ and sibling groups are critically limited.
  • 60% of children in foster care experience three or more placements.
  • Each year, hundreds of young people age out of care without adoption or reunification.

The Haven exists to stand in the gap—particularly for older youth and those waiting for placement—by providing a safe, stable environment during a pivotal moment.
